Hospices de Beaune Corton‑Charlemagne Grand Cru Cuvee François de Salins 2002 reveals the grandeur and complexity of a mature white Burgundy. This wine originates from one of the most esteemed Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, farmed on behalf of the historic charitable institution Hospices de Beaune and later matured under the custodianship of Bouchard Père et Fils. The 2002 vintage is notable for its richness, mineral definition and the way it has evolved over time, offering both intensity and grace.

In the glass, the wine displays a luminous golden yellow colour with subtle amber nuances that reflect its age. The nose opens with expressive aromas of yellow orchard fruit, including ripe apple and pear, alongside delicate citrus peel notes. Floral hints of acacia and white blossom are complemented by spun honey, almond and a touch of vanilla from oak ageing. With gentle coaxing, layers of sweet spice such as nutmeg and gentle toasted brioche emerge, adding further depth and aromatic complexity. These elements combine to form a captivating bouquet that speaks to the wine’s maturity.

On the palate, the 2002 Corton‑Charlemagne is medium bodied yet richly textured. The entry is generous and creamy, with flavours of ripe apricot, lemon custard and pear compote. A firm spine of minerality and bright natural acidity keeps the wine focused and balanced, preventing richness from becoming heavy. Layers of toast, walnut and a fine chalky mineral note build through the mid‑palate and carry into a persistent finish with refined nuance. The texture remains smooth and refined despite its time in bottle, reflecting an ideal harmony between fruit, oak integration and natural acidity.

Corton‑Charlemagne is a Grand Cru appellation known for producing powerful yet elegant chardonnays that reward long ageing. The vines for this cuvee are planted on clay rich marl soils high on the slopes shared by the communes of Aloxe‑Corton, Pernand‑Vergelesses and Ladoix‑Serrigny. The grapes are hand picked and vinified in oak barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation and extended ageing to build complexity and structure. Hospices de Beaune Corton‑Charlemagne 2002 is now fully mature and ready to enjoy.
