The 2010 vintage at Veeder House was shaped by a cooler than average growing season, bringing both challenges and opportunities to the rugged slopes of Mount Veeder. A long, slow ripening period defined the year, with a mild spring followed by a temperate summer that delayed veraison and extended the hang time of the grapes. These conditions demanded patience and precision in the vineyard, but ultimately rewarded careful growers with fruit of exceptional balance, freshness, and aromatic complexity. The mountain terroir, with its well drained rocky soils and elevated exposure, played a crucial role in achieving phenolic ripeness despite the cooler conditions.

At Veeder House, the philosophy remains rooted in minimal intervention and a deep respect for site expression. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon was hand harvested in small lots, with rigorous sorting to ensure only the finest berries were selected. Fermentation took place in small vessels to preserve detail and control extraction, followed by extended maceration to build structure while maintaining finesse. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels for approximately 20 to 24 months, allowing it to develop depth and integration while retaining the purity of fruit that defines the vintage.

In the glass, the wine presents a deep ruby color with hints of garnet at the rim. The nose is refined and expressive, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, red plum, and wild berries, layered with notes of dried herbs, graphite, and a subtle floral lift. Compared to warmer vintages, the aromatic profile leans toward freshness and precision, with a clear sense of minerality that reflects the mountain origin.

On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied, structured yet elegant, with finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavors of cassis, black cherry, and cranberry unfold with clarity, supported by nuances of cedar, tobacco, and a touch of cocoa. The cooler vintage imparts a lifted, linear quality, giving the wine energy and focus. The finish is long and persistent, marked by savory undertones and a refreshing mineral edge.

The 2010 Veeder House Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a classic example of a cooler Napa Valley vintage, emphasizing finesse, balance, and age worthiness over sheer power. It benefits from decanting in its youth and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 12 to 18 years.
